The Barcelona Botanical Garden, which opened in 1999, showcase plant species from the seven regions of the world with a Mediterranean climate: Australia, California, Western Mediterranean, Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa, South Africa and Chile. We can also see the subtropical vegetation of the Canary Islands which is of great interest because it is the precursor, in evolutionary terms, of Mediterranean plant life. The collection of plants is set out in an innovative way: they are not highlighted individually, but grouped together in phytoepisodes, within a natural landscape of bushes or trees.
